Isn’t it amazing how much we love eggs and mimosas on a Saturday afternoon? I mean, is there anything better to do on a weekend? Apparently not, as I found myself sampling the goods at Aquavit last week. Myself, the other half and two pals headed down to St James and decided to try half the menu at “Brunch and Beats.”
The first great thing about Aquavit is the location. Like Veneta and Duck & Waffle’s newest digs, Aquavit benefits from the huge glass windows, modern decor and open plan design which makes for a lovely venue.
After settling into our table, we went straight for drinks: Bloody Mary’s & cocktails all round. It took longer than usual to choose our food since I’m use to selecting whatever has avocado and poached eggs on top. In the end we chose quite a selection:
- Blood pudding with lingonberries, bacon & lardo
- Matje herring with potato, sour cream & egg yolk
- Crab on rye with brioche & fennel
- Herring selection: mustard, vendace roe & chives, elderflower & tomato
- Liver pâté
- Eel Benedict
- Jersey rock oysters with elderflower, shallots & dill
The food was absolutely delicious and a great alternative to thekind of brunch I usually go for. I don’t love fish, though I really enjoyed the fresh and tangy herring selection. With a huge discount, it just makes sense to visit Aquavit for a tasty Nordic weekend brunch!

The menu is slightly pricy and I wouldn’t usually spend this much on brunch but we had 50% off so it really was a bargain. The brunch menu is also 40% off on weekends. Unfortunately this doesn’t include items from the Smorgasbord section (of which we ordered a huge amount) but I would still recommend trying out the weekend brunch with this discount.
This was a such a lovely meal – from the service, to the decor and right down to the food. Brunch and Beats gets a 9/10 from me 👌🏽
