When I moved into my new flat earlier this month, I found myself rediscovering old clothes; dresses I’d long forgotten about, tops I used to love and even shoes I hadn’t worn in ages. With all of London’s new openings, it’s easy to forget about your old favourites, but sometimes you’ve gotta head back and rediscover the classics. So that’s what I did at Clutch last weekend.
Located just off Columbia Road, Clutch is the perfect spot for a chicken-fuelled brunch, post-flower shopping chillout, group hangouts after and late nights any day of the week. Cocktail names draw inspiration from rappers, the menu is focussed on tasty comfort food and it’s all about hip-hop when it comes to the tunes.
Having previously been my go-to for everything from date nights to meals with mates, I was buzzing when Clutch invited me to try out the new menu and check out their refurbished digs. The boyf and I had never gone for brunch so we headed down and made a bee-line for a spicy Hail Mary and mezcal-infused Negroni. Delish.
The fried chicken and French toast was a glorious mountain of crispy chicken and fluffy French toast drenched in vanilla bourbon syrup and topped with turkey bacon. Paired with eggs on the side and slaw to cut through all the carbs, the food was faultless. Not only can you count on some dreamy chicken and lip-smacking cocktails (like the bubbly Fizzee Rascal number), but the chilled out vibes and jazzy exterior give you all the feels.
What we ate:
- Honey butter + sesame wings (£6.50 for 6)
- Fried chicken + French toast (£14) x2
- Slaw (£5)
- Extra eggs (£4)
What we drank:
- Hail Mary (£7.50) Belvedere, Clutch Mary mix, tomato, lemon + sesame
- Negroni Wit Attitude (£10) Mezcal, Aperol, Antica, fortified wine, peach + cane
- Fizzee Rascal (£10) Veuve Clicquot, Lillet Rouge, peach, lime + wild strawberry
- Veuve Clicquot (£10)
